It’s week five of the NFL season and I am finally get around to a running log for an NFL game. To make up for my delinquency, I am going to keep the log running for the entire day. Yes, that is right I will keep this thing going through the early and late NFL games. And as bonus, I will pull double duty and keep an eye on the MLB playoff games.
But I won’t stop there – I continue on into Sunday night with a focus shift to the Red Sox/Angels game three, and monitoring the Sunday night game. Nine hours of logging.
Before we get going, I need to set the stage:
-
I am in five fantasy leagues, so you will get a heavy dose of fantasy posts. My teams:
- Unfrozen Caveman Defending Champs (5-2, second place) – this is my work league and even though it is my lowest monetary league, it is my main focus. Why? I hate to lose to my co-workers. My name last year was Unfrozen Caveman Owner, derived from Phil Hartman’s “Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer” character on Saturday Night Live.
- Fearsome Foursome (3-1, first place) – my tribute to the greatest defensive line in NFL history (just my biased opinion, Steeler, Viking and Eagle fans)
- Cleveland Steamers (3-2, second place) – in tribute of the old Cleveland Steam engine trains or, as I found out at the draft (yea, right!) the act of defecating on another person. Had I known that I wouldn’t have chosen the name (again – yea, right!)
- Can ‘o WhoopAss (3-1, first place) – I came across a mock image of the “Intel Inside” that read “WhoopAss Inside”. The name just felt right.
- Three Toed Sloths (2-2, second place) – The last league I joined and I wanted every name to be unique.
- I play in a pick’em type game with an acquaintance of mine. This game simulates betting with me picking games and assigning an amount that I am willing to risk. The winner of the game is the person with the highest amount at the end of the year. While no cash physically changes hands, it is very serious.
My initial fantasy outlook for the week:
Caveman – I like my matchups against my opponent, Filthy Little Monkeys. This should be a win
Foursome – This league features brutal scoring for defenses (-1 per offensive point allowed). I have some bye week and injury issues this week, so I put my chances at 50/50.
Steamers – Decent matchups, but I am concerned about the “no effing way” game from Romo. 40 percent chance of winning
Can ‘o – Terrible matchups for me and I lose Boldin and a kicker this week. The league doesn’t allow free agent pick-ups after our Thursday deadline and I forgot to pick up a kicker. I face Westbrook Marion Barber and Chris Johnson. I don’t have an answer for any of those guys. This is pretty much a guaranteed loss.
Sloths – I face the highest scoring team in the league. He has Larry Johnson, Michael Turner and Frank Gore at RB. I have Bryan Westbrook. So if somehow, Westbrook can out-score all three of those guys, I have a chance. Plus, my opponent owns me. He dealt me my only two losses in one of my leagues last year (one in the Super Bowl, ouch!). I am chalking this up as a loss.
Summary: I would be very happy to end the week 2-3.
10/5/2008 10:00:28 AM – Here we go! My prediction for first touchdown of the day – Reggie Wayne.
10/5/2008 10:04:38 AM – Roddy White with a big play against the Packers. The Falcons move into the Red Zone.
Here are a couple of my cross-league matchups:
Marion Barber – have him in one league playing against him in one league
Bryan Westbrook – have him in two leagues playing against him in one league
Michael Turner – have him in one league playing against him in one league
I hate those type of matchups – who do I root for? For Westbrook and Barber, against Turner
10/5/2008 10:08:48 AM – And the first TD is by – Justin Pelle (Who?) – Atlanta Falcons! Nice defensive effort by the Packers.
10/5/2008 10:12:24 AM – Westbrook has a TD as does Domenick Hixon of the Giants, both guys of mine. I loved the Giants today – without Plax this is a statement game for them. By dominating the Seahawks, the Giants send a strong message to Plax – “We want you to be a part, but we don’t need you”
10/5/2008 10:20:07 AM – A few field goals on the board – Indy, San Diego and Chi – all games where I liked the OVER. Uh oh, looks my acquaintance has the upper hand early.
10/5/2008 10:22:01 AM – Wow, Desean Jackson with a punt return for a TD, but the dreaded flag – This new ref SteRATore is an idiot. He and his crew are in the middle of everything. Hey buddy the game is not about you. TD stands. Wow, that was an impressive return! On the replay, the Eagles caught a break – it was a block in the back!
10/5/2008 10:24:23 AM – Man, the Packers are flat – I guess the boys in Vegas knew something posting that line so low. Ronnie Brown looks great for Miami, Seattle added a field goal. Deangelo (on my bench) Williams just ran one in from 10. I have Delhomme going in like 900 leagues today so I need that to stop.
10/5/2008 10:27:06 AM –Quick flip to the Colts/Texans to watch a 4th and 1. Play fake and a bomb to Reggie Wayne – complete for 42 yards. The Colts didn’t use Addai to get that first down – what a surprise! The Colts score – Addai takes it in from a yard out. The Over is looking better here.
10/5/2008 10:30:13 AM – Back to “game mix”, the Titans look like crap as well. Doesn’t that seem scripted – all of a sudden Vince Young is healthy, but Fisher told everyone Collins will not lose his job while they are winning, so what do the coaches do they sabotage Collins so they can get Young back in there and save face.
10/5/2008 10:31:58 AM – The Giants are in the inside the Seahawk 10. Brandon Jacobs with the TD. Wow, the Giants are pummeling the SeaDogs. Jacobs is having a huge day so far – 4-55 and TD
10/5/2008 10:36:02 AM – What is this I see – an Ahman Green sighting! Typical move by that prick Kubiak. Slaton looks like crap so far, which is also typical for the NFL. Anytime something seems logical, the opposite happens – like you can run all over the Colts defense. What happens the Texans come out throwing – 8 offensive plays so far, 6 passes. Great, Ahman looks good too. So much for Slaton being the guy! Oh well, it’s just a matter of time before Green is hurt again.
10/5/2008 10:40:09 AM – Gross, Dierdorf just patted Goodell’s leg like a queer. The Texans are at the Colt 1, 1st and goal with your backup quarterback in the game and the smart move is to run a quarterback sneak, right? I swear there are so many dumbass coaches in this league. What happens if Rosenpenis gets knocked out on that play- huh Kubicrack? What then are you going do for a quarterback?
10/5/2008 10:44:19 AM – Aaron Rodgers looks horrible – which helps me in multiple leagues – I am playing against Rodgers (last minute change, thanks) and Jennings.
10/5/2008 10:45:34 AM – The city of Philadelphia is going to explode with joy today – the Phils lead early 1-0 and the Eagles are dominating the Skins.
10/5/2008 10:50:27 AM – A quick check of my league scores and I am in good shape in all five leagues. But I am getting it handed to me in my pick’em league – where I need the Packers (down 10), Chargers (tied) and Eagles to win.
10/5/2008 10:53:40 AM – Andre Johnson is showing up today, I have been trying to get him for a couple weeks and now the price is moving up.
10/5/2008 10:54:50 AM – The Pack just scored, which would be great if it was Ryan Grant or Brandon Jackson, terrible if it Jennings. Driver (on my bench) with the TD. That’s ok, Delhomme just threw a TD to DeAngelo Williams to balance out the Rodgers TD.
10/5/2008 10:58:09 AM – Here something you don’t hear much – the Dolphins are in the Red Zone. Greg Camarillo (on my bench) with a TD. The Chargers need to start playing in the first half of these games.
10/5/2008 11:01:40 AM – The Giants are at the 1, again. Maybe Derrick Ward can get a sniff, nope Jacobs in again, he is having a monster day – 10-78-2 in 1.5 quarters.
10/5/2008 11:04:15 AM – The Titans start a drive at the Ravens 17 and move the ball one yard – nice. Field goal ties the game at three. Hold on, the Packers D is getting torched by Matty Ryan – a touchdown to … Holy crap a message from DirectV – something about the sun affecting the signal, what are you kidding me in the middle of a Sunday football – I am switching back to cable!
10/5/2008 11:07:27 AM – OK, picture back. Chiefs just called for a penalty twelve men on the field, then they pan the sidelines and Herm Edwards has one shoe off.!
10/5/2008 11:08:42 AM – Back to the Falcons TD – I am guessing it was Roddy White, yep 6-115-1 for White, I have him going in one league. Deangelo Williams is getting the bulk of the work today. What’s that all about?
10/5/2008 11:13:47 AM – The Texans and Packers are driving, I need more TVs. Packers settle for a missed FG. Andre Johnson with a touch, we can pretty much forget getting that guy without giving up the farm. The Texans lead at halftime.
10/5/2008 11:16:44 AM – And the Falcons are on the move again – you simply cannot stop Roddy White.
10/5/2008 11:19:58 AM – The Phillies are up 5-0, looks like the Dodgers and Phillies in the NLCS. Who would have thought Jeff Suppan would suck for the Brewers with the season on the line? Just about everyone except for Suppan’s family and the clubshouse guy who loves his quirky ways.
10/5/2008 11:22:11 AM – Miami is up 17-3 on the Chargers. Seriously Norv, get your guys ready to play from the opening kickoff! Ronnie Brown with the touchdown from the Single Wing
10/5/2008 11:23:39 AM – Engram and Branch are back for the Seahawks. What a difference that is making for Hasselbeck? 27-3 Giants.
10/5/2008 11:32:19 AM – Every game is at half. I like the Chargers, Colts and Packers to rally back in the second. I have to try and get back on the positive side against my acquaintance.
Fantasy Check:
Caveman up 21 – really good shape as my opponent has only Lance Moore left
Can ‘o – down 118 (that is like being down 11), that is actually not too bad given what is left for both of us
Sloths – up by 1.6 points. Again not too bad especially if the weather in Denver is bad
Steamers – up 32 points, looking good but with Romo and Moss left I need to extend
Fearsome – down 8, not looking good with what he has left, that BS touchdown by Devin Hester might be a killer for me. I need Portis to find the end zone in the second half
10/5/2008 11:39:53 AM – How long before the Cheeseheads start ripping management for not bringing Favre back? Barring a comeback – that will start in the second half.
10/5/2008 11:41:54 AM – Joe Blanton is making Ed Wade look like a genius – Phillies up 5-0 in the bottom of the 5th. It’s ovah!
10/5/2008 11:44:02 AM – Delhomme just threw a pick in the end zone. Dammit, Jake! I cannot afford to lose points because of your carelessness. Damon Huard gives it right back. OK, Jake redeem yourself. The announcers are calling for Thigpen! LOL. Come on, guys I was in the middle of taking a drink of water that has now been spit up all over my keyboard. Carolina with a 3rd and 6 at the 18, this is Delhomme time. So much for the Larry Johnson resurgence – 3 yards. What a shitty third down play – a run so they can kick a field goal? Here comes the rant – I used to have respect for John Fox – yeah, that play call might be the right move against the Chiefs, but what happens when you play a good team and need to go for a TD. Effing moron! Mark it down the Panthers win nothing this year – no division and no playoffs – and guess what John Fox, your ass is going to be looking for a Job – This is a double whammy because Cowher will take the Panther job and I want him for the Rams. End Rant.
10/5/2008 12:00:41 PM – Things are tightening up in my work league thanks to Eli Manning and Leron McClain. The Skins scored a touchdown – my odds on who scored it – Moss 2-1, Portis 4-1, Cooley 10-1, field 1-100. Randle El to Cooley! Good, I needed Cooley!
10/5/2008 12:05:10 PM – Chris Chambers scores as the Chargers have finally woke up. Now if the Colts and Packers can follow suit I will have my hands firmly around my acquaintance’s throat. NOOOOOOOOO the Bears just scored a defensive touchdown – that pretty much takes care of my, Foursome game. Houston adds a field goal 20-10 Texans. The Pack add a FG as well, 17-10 Falcons.
10/5/2008 12:08:07 PM – Damon Huard finds a wide open Panther DB! That is the end of that game. That wimp-ass Fox will run the ball every play now.
10/5/2008 12:09:23 PM – San Diego is back inside the 10. LT is hurt. 3rd down and goal – Chambers stopped at the one – what will the softest coach in the NFL do here? Oh my, I love being wrong – Delhomme throw a 47 yarder and puts Foursome back in the game. Maybe John Fox isn’t so bad after all.
10/5/2008 12:13:51 PM – The Chargers go for it and with LT back they get stopped. To make matters worse Chris Chambers is carted off the field.
10/5/2008 12:15:41 PM – Detroit is in the red zone and guess what Kevin Smith with a nice run for a touchdown. That works nicely as I have Smith in a league where I will eventually need him. Maybe the Lions sent him a message by giving Rudi Johnson the start this week. How asinine are Lions that they would not let their #1 pick carry the load?
10/5/2008 12:20:27 PM – There’s something you don’t see every minute – Reggie Brown dropping a pass. Philly is now down 16-14. I wonder what would happen if the Eagles blow a 14-0 to the hated Redskins and the Phillies blew a 5-0 lead to the Brewers in the same day? Philadelphia might look something like Hill Valley in Back to the Future II after Biff Tannen steals the sports almanac.
10/5/2008 12:23:29 PM – Game break coming up, it must be the Packers/Falcons – Jennings TD, of course. But at least the game is tied. The Redskins are taking it to the Eagles right now – 1st and Goal at the 4.
10/5/2008 12:26:15 PM – Houston scored again – let’s play the guessing game – Slaton or Johnson or worse case Walter. And it’s …..Slaton, nice!
10/5/2008 12:29:45 PM – Portis with a TD, 23-14 Skins. I just saw my acquaintance and he was carrying a large cylindrical object. Ouch! Yep, that’s how bad today has been so far.
10/5/2008 12:32:31 PM – How bad is your team when David Carr leads a touchdown drive against? Putrid! The NFC west is a joke and just think one of those teams is going to host a playoff game! I am salivated at the possibility! Nice one from Kurt Menefee – David Carr is known as the “Human victory cigar”.
10/5/2008 12:36:27 PM – The Phillies add another run to make it 6-1. Good news Philadelphia you are only 8 wins away from hoisting a championship banner. Smile!
10/5/2008 12:38:29 PM – Manning to Dallas Clark to pull the Colts within 10. Still a long shot here but there is some hope with 4 minutes left.
10/5/2008 12:42:34 PM – Ronnie Brown just de-cleated Cromartie, as the Dolphins are trying to burn the clock. This is quite a shock – three weeks ago the Dolphins were embarrassed by the Cardinals now they might be in second place in their division. Another huge first down for the Dolphins – that game is ovah.
10/5/2008 12:45:28 PM – Wow, a play that would have Joe Pisarchik in the fetal position sucking his thumb, the Colts pick up a Rosenpenis fumble and return it for a TD. 27-24. Michael Turner scores for the Falcons to put that game away – 27-17 Falcons. Unbelievable, Rosenfels fumbled again – the Colts are now if FG range to, at worst, tie. This has to rank up with the Buffalo comeback for Houston.
10/5/2008 12:50:16 PM – Huge first down conversion for the Redskins – if they hang on that is one of the all-time best road trips in the history of the NFL, beating Phailadelphia and Dallas back-to-back.
10/5/2008 12:53:47 PM – Green Bay with a TD – Rodgers to Donald Lee. Indy scores – Reggie Wayne, but he might have been out of bounds. My fantasy opponents are rolling big numbers here at the end of these games – I am scared to look. The good news, my acquaintance had put away that object!
10/5/2008 12:55:20 PM – Oh and things just keep getting better – what a finish in most of the games – Titans take the lead and Colts TD stands. Two finals in – Miami and NYG win. Panthers win 34-0.
10/5/2008 12:56:52 PM – Philly is going to get the ball back down six. I would bet just about any amount of money that McNabb will fail.
10/5/2008 12:58:06 PM – The Texans aren’t done – at the 50 with a minute left. Falcons win! Check that – the Skins go for the first down and convert. and the die hard Eagles fans head for the exits.
10/5/2008 1:07:15 PM -How about the runs in the Colts/Texans games 10 points Colts, 27 points Texans and 21 Colts.
10/5/2008 1:10:28 PM – All early games are final – before checking my fantasy games, I am going to make a guess the numbers –
Caveman – game is close but I have a huge advantage with remaining players – I call it a win
Fearsome – I am getting drilled, I am guessing I will need a “no effing way” game from one of my remaining players, not likely with Sammy Morris, Robert Meachem, Longwell, Saint DT (-1 for every point allowed) and Crayton, He still has Maroney, Jones-Drew and Lindell. Loss.
Steamers – Up big time – and barring a huge game from both Moss and Romo I am safe
Can ‘o – probably down, but not big. I like my chances – I still have JT O’Sullivan, Felix Jones (who playing in garbage time might out-score Barber), Marshawn Lynch and Steve Breaston. He has Ohco-Stinko, Bills defense and Barber. I might have a chance
Sloths – I am down, but again not big. The matchups are not in my favor but luck this week is.
I think I am up about 150 points against my acquaintance.
My early picks went 4-4, with terrible picks on Detroit and Green Bay.
10/5/2008 1:23:49 PM –Whew, I am exhausted but I will continue on. Here is fantasy scoring update:
Caveman – up 114.84 to 106.90, with Fitzgerald and Barber playing in the late games. I have J-Ville and Mewelde Moore tonight, they have Lance Moore tomorrow. Even if Moore goes crazy, what are we looking at 10/150/3 – 43 points. I need 35 points out of my four guys – should be doable.
Fearsome – down 23, which is better than I expected but still not looking good.
Steamers – up 33, too close with Romo and Moss. But it doesn’t look like much has changed in NE, Cassel still can’t throw the ball downfield
Can ‘o – down less than 100 (~10 normal points), should be close with the matchups.
Sloths – down 5, this is winnable. But Frank Gore is a scary guy!
10/5/2008 1:36:41 PM – The 49ers go up 7-0 on a pass from JT to Gore, no big deal except that it was a post pattern from Gore. Martz loves to torture me. Fitzgerald puts the Cards up 7-0, funny thing he was wide open from the one. Uh, you might want to cover him.
10/5/2008 1:39:25 PM – Oh F&*%, Moss with a 66 yard touchdown. Dammit, I guess Cassel can get the ball downfield. How nice would Moss look on the Caveman team, with Fitz and Desean Jackson. I probably couldn’t have gotten Fitz for Edwards.
10/5/2008 1:41:10 PM – And how about this for some luck – Felix Jones with a 33 yard TD. Excellent! Even though I have Barber in one league, I am comfortable with that lead unless somehow Lance Moore puts up a Jerry Rice circa 1995 type performance. Come to think of it that was against the Vikings, oh no!
10/5/2008 1:44:28 PM – Bruuuuuuuuuce! Ike with a touchdown and the shootout is on. And just like that Can ‘o seizes the lead!
10/5/2008 1:53:56 PM – Tim Hightower with a TD for the Cardinals. Uh oh, Felix Jones is getting quite a few carries early, hopefully that doesn’t mean Barber’s value is diminishing.
10/5/2008 1:58:48 PM – White Sox and Rays 0-0 top 2nd, I really hope the White Sox can force at least a game four. However, they are still on fumes from the two extra games they played this week.
10/5/2008 2:00:02 PM – Romo to Witten for a TD. Witten stood there wide open for about 45 seconds, he was standing there waving his arms like a stranded man on a deserted island who sees a plane hovering overhead.
10/5/2008 2:01:17 PM – Here we go with the Rays – 2 out runner on third and I bet they get the key hit. All season long they have gotten big hits from a bunch of scrub-ass triple-A players. Now maybe one day we will look back and guys like Jason Bartlett, Ben Zobrist and that little f-stick Iwamura will be household names, but right now these guys wouldn’t start on half the teams in MLB. Now first and third and that little douche bag Iwamura is up. Meanwhile, Lee Evans just caught an 87 yard touchdown. F&^%, a nubber for an infield sinlge, gives the Rays a 1-0 lead. If this horse crap luck runs out in the ALCS, the Red Sox (or Angels) will effing broom these bastards.
10/5/2008 2:06:57 PM – Back to Evans, the Steamers are playing against him. So that makes a 66 and 87 yard touchdowns for my opponent in a matter of minutes. That 33 point lead is down to 4. The worst part of that – it’s JP Losman who threw the touchdown. I have the last laugh with Longwell tomorrow night, but we have too much football left today. I cannot be down more than 10 going into tomorrow night.
10/5/2008 2:11:09 PM – Kyle Orton threw for 334 yards today. My thoughts – ” ”
10/5/2008 2:18:50 PM – That’s one way to clear up the RBC situation in New England – hurt Lamont Jordan – now we just need the injury bug to bite Faulk and either Morris or Maroney. Of course then the Pats would go sign Shuan Alexander and continue to give every back 7 carries a game.
10/5/2008 2:24:39 PM – Man, it is so weird to see the Pats down 14-7 late in the second quarter. Cassel is sacked and the Pats will settle for a FG.
10/5/2008 2:27:59 PM – The Bills face a third and goal from the Cardinals 2. I really need Lynch to score here for Can ‘o.
10/5/2008 2:29:17 PM – How about the 6-6 tie in Denver? Like I have been telling anyone who would listen the league has figured out the Bronco offense. What’s interesting is that who knew the Broncos had a defense?
10/5/2008 2:31:16 PM – The Bill score on a JP Losman quarterback draw, better than a pass to Lee Evans.
10/5/2008 2:31:29 PM – This Bush, Clinton commercial is priceless. It is so obviously that they are not in the same room – who the hell put that together – some seventh grader from his basement.
10/5/2008 2:32:57 PM – The White Sox, much like the Yankees, lack the ability to manufacture a run. They get a leadoff runner on who has speed and then he sits there as the brain-dead hittera that follow try to muscle outside pitches. Still 1-0 Rays.
10/5/2008 2:38:04 PM – The Cardinals add a field goal. And AJ Pierzinski singles home a run to tie the game at 1-1.
10/5/2008 2:42:42 PM – The Pats are at the two with 9 seconds left in the half. We all know what this means – Moss with a fade. Geez, what a piss poor effort on defense – everyone in my house (four women) knew Faulk was getting the ball. You could tell the way Moss was “mailing it in” as he went in motion. If you had the power to increase the IQ every NFL player by 20% how much better would that make the game?
10/5/2008 2:47:03 PM – Quick flip to the Cowboys/Bengals – Cowboys have the ball with 34 seconds left in the half. They run out the clock – 17-6 Cowboys. Interesting game –Cedric Benson has carried the ball 6 times, TO has one catch and Ocho-Cinco has nada catcho. God help the city of Cincinnati with Benson and Chris Henry running loose.
10/5/2008 2:50:37 PM – Fantasy scoreboard check:
Caveman up 31, I will not call this a victory yet, but I feel good
Can ‘o – up 135 (~14) looks good right now
Sloths – down 9, but I have Brees, Holmes and Matt Jones and only have to survive a half of Gore and Cutler
Fearsome – down 25, I need a miracle
Steamers – up 5, but again I have to survive Moss and Evans in the second half
10/5/2008 3:02:14 PM – There is a TD for Cutler, great! Sloths still look good with Brees.
10/5/2008 3:06:28 PM – White Sox 4-1, let’s see if they can keep the Rays down for good today.
10/5/2008 3:14:24 PM – Housmandzadeh scores and that will give the Steamers some breathing room, which is welcomed if you know anything about Steamers. Oh and by the way the Bengals are only 4 points down and with a win will likely put Wade Phillips out of work.
10/5/2008 3:16:47 PM – Crapola, O’Sullivan just threw a pick – thank goodness I did not start him in every league that I own him in. Now I have to sweat out the Moss touchdown as a counter to the Housh one. First and goal for the Pats – down to the 1, where’s Vrabel, oh, I am guessing it’s not as cute to throw that tackle eligible this year. They tried – what a dumbf*%$ Belichek is. Now it’s fourth down. Meanwhile, the Cardinals scored a touchdown – a Warner TD – at this point I am hoping for Breatson. It goes to Fitzgerald, which will work as well.
10/5/2008 3:28:38 PM – The Cardinals are back in the red zone – will it be a hat trick for Fitz or Breaston’s first?
10/5/2008 3:39:17 PM – The Bengals are at the Cowboy 22, looking for the lead – nope – 17-16 after a FG.
10/5/2008 3:40:51 PM – The Cardinals convert the 4th and 1. Still a chance for Fitz to get his third. Hightower gets his second, and he was started by someone in one of my leagues.
10/5/2008 3:45:41 PM – Wow, the Pats have really locked the 9ers down in the second half. O’Sullivan only has 86 yards passing and he looks rattled.
10/5/2008 3:49:22 PM – BRUUUUUUUUUCE! Another TD from Ike, yeah, he’s washed up, he couldn’t play for the Rams. The Rams front office is full of effing morons
10/5/2008 3:51:07 PM – 5-1 White Sox, good, if the Sox can finish tonight the more games the Rays have to play the better. And if the White Sox could somehow pull this series out, I love the Red Sox matchup against them.
10/5/2008 3:52:36 PM – Two touchdowns were scored as I was watching the 49ers score – one in Denver by Tampa Bay and the Cowboys put one up. I don’t care about the Tampa, although I would like to see that be Warrick Dunn. The other one is good as long as it’s not Barber or a Romo TD, not likely I know. Ike Hilliard for Tampa – I can’t believe Ike is relevant again. When do Reidel Anthony and Jaquez Green show up to the party. Big surprise, touchdown to that pouting little bitch Owens.
10/5/2008 3:57:57 PM – Housh with his second TD – and the Bengals are in position to tie this game with a two point conversion. Curious call on the two pointer – a fade to a sloth TE – that’s what Marvin Lewis does best – find a way to lose games.
10/5/2008 4:02:33 PM – Broncos win 16-13. Two games undecided – Pats/49ers and Bengals/Cowboys. The Cardinals are up 41-17, so much for the Bills. I guess the Bills fans knew to stay away.
10/5/2008 4:05:39 PM – Would someone please get Wade Phillips a bra? I bet a couple of the cheerleaders are jealous of Wade’s rack!
10/5/2008 4:06:56 PM – Felix Jones is unbelievable fast. He is putting this game on ice and quite likely starting a time-share in Dallas.
10/5/2008 4:08:24 PM – The Pats are lining up for a 49-yard field goal to give them a 9 point lead. It’s good! 30-21 with 4:30 left.
10/5/2008 4:18:45 PM – The Cowboys score again and the Pats put the game away with another pick of O’Sullivan. Both games are at nine points and ovah. The White Sox are now up 5-3, the Rays keep coming back, that is my biggest concern if the Sox face them. The Sox bullpen blows.
10/5/2008 4:49:02 PM – OK, back after a short dinner break. Post-season Beckett isn’t pitching tonight, so anything could happen. The Sox offense better be ready to put up numbers against that clown Saunders.
10/5/2008 4:53:38 PM – Mutha ******, walked in a run, I thought Dice-K pitched Friday night. The Red Sox cannot win the World Series without “post-season” Beckett, so if this is the crap we are going to get from this guy, I might as well stop watching right now. And why give this Angel team any life at all.
10/5/2008 4:56:12 PM – Oh, it’s going to one of these type nights – Teixeria made an unbelievable play to record an out on Ellbury. Pedroia HBP, come on Ortiz take this schmuck out and put the Angels back in depression mode. 1-0 Angels going to the top of the 2nd. Beckett better settle in.
10/5/2008 4:58:59 PM – Let’s catch up on the fantasy scores:
Caveman – up 42 with J-Ville and Mewelde Moore against Lance Moore. Ballgame!
Fearsome – down 20, Meachem, Longwell and the New Orleans defense against Jones-Drew. I need the Saints defense to post a positive number. I might have a chance if that happens.
Steamers – game over 143.72 to 110.52, nice effort by my opponent he would have beaten most of the other teams.
Can ‘o – up 181.5, with only Meachem left for my opponent. A big upset but Meachem is capable of putting up a couple long touchdowns (which count for more).
Sloths – 15 down with Brees, Matt Jones and Santonio Holmes. Hopefully Holmes and Jones take care of it tonight. I don’t want to go into to tomorrow night needed anything, with my opponents history of crap-ass luck, I could be in a position to need only .1 of a point and Brees will hurt himself in pre-game.
10/5/2008 5:03:34 PM – FU Craig Sager you effing clown – Danley did squeeze him in the first inning – I can’t believe MLB sold out and let this second rate station have the playoffs.
10/5/2008 5:11:32 PM – Varitek can’t hit and can’t throw – WTF good is he!
10/5/2008 5:19:11 PM – I hate this team sometimes – it’s effing Joe Saunders not Sandy Koufax. If they lose tonight, they have a real problem on their hands. I trust Lester, but the Angels will have the momentum.
10/5/2008 5:26:27 PM – Jags and Steelers just kicked off; Chip Carey just said “Coco Crisp would love a chance to hit in this inning with runners on”, really? I guess because Coco owns Joe Saunders, ok Covelli show us what you got!
10/5/2008 5:28:44 PM – Maybe there is something to that – Saunders is pitching around him! And Ellsbury has a chance to be an early hero, bases loaded and two outs.
10/5/2008 5:31:45 PM – Jacksonville defensive touchdown – 7-0 Jags.
10/5/2008 5:32:44 PM – Angel baseball at its finest – a ball that the 2B and CF can’t decide who will catch and it falls between them. 3-1 Sox. Honestly, keep sharp objects away from Angel fans right now – I love the Sox and hate their opponents with the white-hot passion of a googol suns but I can imagine how Angel fans feel right now. The Best Buy manager in Anaheim better call in an order for universal remotes tonight, because I guarantee a ton of remotes were just busted by Angel fans.
10/5/2008 5:38:22 PM – “The Laundry Crapper” just picked up a first down as the Steelers are on the move again. The Steelers have possessed the ball for the first 10 minutes of the game and are tied 7-7.
10/5/2008 5:44:52 PM – Leadoff double for the Angels. Get this piece of crap out of this game – tie game – their fat-ass catcher Napoli hits a bomb against Buckett. Thanks, Beckett. If you don’t have it physically, get the f&%# out of this game. And FU Chip Carey, who was about to blow his wad when that got hit – I thought that home run won the World Series the way he called it – what a little putz. Nice bat flip Napoli, what was this your 5th home run of the year, someone should drill him in his next at bat. Thanks for showing up tonight, Beckett.
10/5/2008 5:54:41 PM – Jones-Drew with a touchdown, wave goodbye to the Fearsome chances of winning.
10/5/2008 5:55:14 PM – Ortiz only has warning track power now – how depressing!
10/5/2008 6:00:53 PM – That was a crappy inning. 3-3 heading to the top of the 4th for more Beckett magic.
10/5/2008 6:01:23 PM – End of the 1st quarter between the Jags and Steelers
10/5/2008 6:14:40 PM – Josh Beckett is crapping himself on the mound tonight – see here is where a manager like Joe Torre would come out and remove his ass – he has nothing tonight – but not our bald-headed f-stick of a manager. Lucky – he got out of it, so for the record the Angels have left a small army on the bases this game.
10/5/2008 6:16:28 PM – The Steelers have added a field goal – 14-10 Jags, the Steelers are playing inspired ball tonight, but my guess is the last weeks game will take its toll around the middle of the 4th quarter. Much like it did in Baltimore today. But the Steelers look really good right now.
10/5/2008 6:21:44 PM – I love leadoff runners getting on base. Varitek up to do one of two things – Strikeout or Ground into a double play. Honestly, this little turd Chip Carey is openly rooting for the Angels. For those of you who had GIDP, you win.
10/5/2008 6:26:08 PM – The Steelers scored again – Nate Washington – nice! Too bad Jones-Drew scored that cheap TD after the interference call or the Fearsome might still have a chance – the Jags are doing absolutely nothing.
10/5/2008 6:28:32 PM – Maybe Beckett is starting settle in, he opens the 5th with a strikeout of former Yankee great Juan Riveria. Un-effing real, that fat-f%^# catcher hit another homerun. So much for Beckett settling in. You know it’s bad when Howie Kendrick gets a hit – but Francona just sits there slobbering like a senile 90-year old. This team looks like complete crap right now. I want Beckett out of this game before it gets out of reach. Chown Figgins owns him right now, 3-3 tonight.
10/5/2008 6:36:37 PM – Ron Winter is still officiating? I thought he retired (or was retired) a few years back. Geez, Pittsburgh has dominated this game – 18 -4 advantage in first downs.
10/5/2008 6:42:27 PM – How pathetic is Garret Anderson? He misplays a ball for a double. Good for the Red Sox in this series but the White Sox or Rays will not be such ass-clowns and give away runs – whatcha going to do then Sox. Now would be a great time for Dustin Pedroia to be Dustin Pedroia.
10/5/2008 6:47:03 PM – Great AB by Pedroia – weakly fouling out after having a 3-0 counts\. Now “big popup” will nothing and the Sox waste a leadoff double. Then have done this in previous playoff years, but the big difference is the Sox have pretty much always had a shut down pitching performance.
10/5/2008 6:52:03 PM – “Big popup” turned into “crap the left-handed batter’s box” and struck out. I am just about ready to watch the football game exclusively, eff this turd-fest. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUK! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUK! 4-4 biatch!
10/5/2008 6:55:30 PM – Saunders is gone. Suanders looks like he belongs in LA, in fact, I could see him on a show like “90210″, one of those bratty, little punks that you want to pummel their face every time you see them.
10/5/2008 6:59:27 PM – Why is Lowell playing tonight? He can barely move. He already couldn’t field a ball to his right and cost the Sox a run. Now he strikes out – looking. Get his ass out of this game, Tito!
10/5/2008 7:01:11 PM – Halftime in the NFL game and I haven’t seen enough from Jones and Holmes.
10/5/2008 7:07:09 PM – Manny DelCarmen comes in and has a perfect inning. Did hell just freeze over? And he went through Anderson, Teixeira and Vlad. I am feeling pretty good that the Sox are going to win tonight. The Angels have given the Sox 3 of their t runs and wasted multiple opportunities themselves. That will come back to haunt them.
10/5/2008 7:13:02 PM – Meanwhile, NFL.COM just crapped the bed. So, I cannot get to the Jags/Steelers game center.
10/5/2008 7:17:58 PM – They should really remove the Cubs highlights from those “There’s only one October” commercials. Especially, when the narrator mentions something like “… stepping up big” and the highlight is of Alfonso Soriano. The game is 4-4 heading to the top of 7th
10/5/2008 7:22:14 PM – Five in a row retired by Delcarmen but now he has to face Johnny Bench, er I mean, Mike Napoli. What an effing punk – he gets hit (barely) with the pitch and he gives a look to the mound. Hey Mensa, like it was intentional. But don’t worry your ass will get drilled next year, mark it down.
10/5/2008 7:27:27 PM – Okajima in. He wasn’t very good this year with runners on base – allowing a little over 70% of them to score. The league average is something around 20%. Whew, he gets out of it, with a ground ball right at Lowell (not literally right at him, if it was a millimeter to the right or left it would have gotten past him).
10/5/2008 7:33:52 PM – Ellsbury draws a leadoff walk – time to see if “fat boy” behind the plate can throw. Wow, as good as Pedroia was in the regular season he has been equally bad in the post-season. Zero hits this post-season! The thing is – right now the Sox know they are going to win this game. The problem for the Angels is they know it too.
10/5/2008 7:41:31 PM – Now would be a good time for “Big Popup” to turn back into “Big Papi”.
10/5/2008 7:45:35 PM – Son of a bitch – Ellsbury steals second, but over-slides and gets tagged out. Papi draws a walk to keep the inning alive.
10/5/2008 7:48:08 PM – During the pitching change, I flip over to see Mercedes Lewis catch a touchdown pass to give the Jags a lead 21-20, like I wrote earlier the Steelers will start feeling the effects of the game last week about now.
10/5/2008 7:49:22 PM – Great ab by Youks, watching two pitches down the middle and then swings over the top of ball out of the zone. Are we looking at other walk-off at Fenway against the Angels?
10/5/2008 7:51:20 PM – Mewlede Moore looks pretty stinkin’ good. Who needs Willie Parker?
10/5/2008 7:53:28 PM – Roethilisberger just got hit by about eight Jaguars and they twisted him like a pretzel. No wonder this guy is always hurt.
10/5/2008 7:56:32 PM – Can we please get this effing gimp (Lowell) out of the game – another ball hit by him that most little league third baseman would have gobbled up.
10/5/2008 8:01:27 PM – Masterson K’s Vlad to get out of the inning.
10/5/2008 8:13:10 PM – Jason Bay just missed a home run. And I for one do not admire Mike Lowell, Chip, he has costed the Sox one run tonight and unless he hits a ball out of the park the best we can hope for is a single. Get him out of the game – he can be just as sagacious on the bench.
10/5/2008 8:17:21 PM – The Angels have really not played well tonight – Tori Hunter just ran himself into an out at second trying to stretch a single.
10/5/2008 8:19:54 PM – Damn, so much for the Steelers running out of gas.
10/5/2008 8:21:35 PM – Why is that every Sox reliever can get two easy outs and then starts crapping the bed. Ok, Masterson got Hammerin’ Hank Napoli. Now it sets up the classic walk-off ending.
10/5/2008 8:27:16 PM – Gutty win by the Steelers, what a surprise the Jags didn’t bring their A-Game tonight.
10/5/2008 8:28:44 PM – Two outs in the 9th with Ellsbury at the plate, if he gets on … oh, oh, it’s go ..nope. Ellsbury put a charge into it that but not quite.
10/5/2008 8:41:44 PM – Paps rips through the Angels 8-9-1 hitters with little problem, but Pedroia continues to suck this post-season’s ass.
10/5/2008 8:50:39 PM – Why the hell is Mike Lowell staying in this game? He might get throw out from right field.
10/5/2008 8:55:05 PM – Buck Martinez “How do you take a pitch that close?” – Answer – He can’t move his bat to the outside pitch, so he had no choice but to take it.
10/5/2008 8:57:39 PM – Dammit, Lowrie gave that a ride. Sox leave the bases loaded for the millionth time this year.
10/5/2008 9:00:04 PM – Now Paps has to face Anderson, Tex and Vlad – I am not too worried, but he had a long wait on the bench that could come into play.
10/5/2008 9:04:05 PM – Big out #1, but Teixeira is the guy who scares the “steamer” right out of me. All right Johnny you got two strikes – put him away!
10/5/2008 9:08:05 PM – Effing Alex Cora – zero range and now we have some trouble on our hands. Let’s go Johnny, take care of Tori Hunter and Matthews.
10/5/2008 9:11:33 PM – Two down and two on after Hunter flies out. Matthews up, but you know what this is Matthews chance to make everyone in Anaheim forget what a colossal bust he’s been. He gets a big hit here that leads to an Angels win and they will love. Think JD Drew!
10/5/2008 9:16:07 PM – So much for that – in fact if Matthews thought it couldn’t gunter down -
et any worse – it just did. Three pitch K.
10/5/2008 9:27:32 PM – The longer this game goes the less likely the Red Sox win, given the relief pitching options. Nice eye Kotsay, swings at ball 4.
10/5/2008 9:28:48 PM – Dammit, Pedroia is a regular A-Rod, 0 for the series, hard hit ball but right at Chone Figgins. Bottom of the lineup coming up for the Angels, for Lopez? Lopez a lefty specialist to face two rightys and a switch hitter, wow! Okay, Tito I guess you know best,
10/5/2008 9:36:55 PM – Tito, you stupid son of a bitch! What a shock – worthless Lopez gives up the go ahead run.
10/5/2008 9:39:58 PM – Teixeira can put this game to rest right here with a three run bomb. Fortunately, that worthless POS Lopez got out of the inning,
10/5/2008 9:41:33 PM – The winner of this game wins the series! No way the Sox beat Lackey tomorrow with the momentum they gain from this game.
10/5/2008 9:43:21 PM – Papi up first and watches a hittable pitch go by. Come on David!
10/5/2008 9:51:49 PM – A leadoff walk, Youks gave the ball a ride but nothing and then Bay who I guess can’t hit a pitcher unless he’s seen him before strikes out and then Cora hit the ball hard but right at the little f$%#ing puke Figgins. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU#$!
Whew! The marathon log ends after nearly 12 hours and 7,500 words! Kudos to anyone who stayed with this log to the end.
Quick recap:
Caveman put up the highest single week of the season and barring a 12/220/6 from Lance Moore I collect a win.
Fearsome needs some major help. Down 30 with Meachem, Longwell and New Orleans. My two problems are: 1. Every field goal Longwell puts up is nullified by the defense scoring and 2. If Meachem goes off, I probably lose a lead in another league. But here is my best shot:
Meachem – 5/90/1 13.5 points
Longwell – 11 points
NO DT – +7 points
Steamers – highest score of the week and a guaranteed win
Can ‘o – 181.5 point lead, if Meachem hits the above with the TD being 40 yards, I will by 6 points
Sloths – I need 3.6 points out of Brees – which is 93 yards
I finished 300 points better than my acquaintance this week
And finally, I am 6-6-1 in my weekly spread picks.
